Two patented test chairs provide us with scientific data points and exclusive research our competitors don’t have. Over 220 design and utility patents including the Wave Suspension System on Fern and the Pelvic and Asymmetrical Lumbar (PAL) support system found on Zody and Very.

Our task chairs are engineered to exceed user expectations, as well as global industry standards for performance and quality, including those set by BIFMA. Complementing our research efforts, this rigorous testing informs every aspect of our chairs—from design to features and adjustments—to ensure we’re meeting the needs of all people at work.

Ergonomics with Proven Performance

All of our premium task chairs are designed to comfortably fit the 5th to 95th percentile of the population—everyone from 5’ tall and 90 lbs. to 6’4’’ and 275 lbs. and beyond—to ensure that we support as many people as possible.

Our two patented test chairs, combined with high-resolution pressure mapping, have helped generate over 5.5 billion data points that inform the design and engineering of our seating.

2. Pressure Mapping

Good ergonomic seating incorporates a range of adjustability and personalization options that are easy to set. In our chair development process, our research focuses on the user, resulting in intuitive controls that require minimal effort to operate. A detachable hanging tag on each chair provides users with a guide to adjustments, and step-by-step videos are available online to ensure personal comfort, ergonomic support, and a proper fit.

Since 2004, Haworth has partnered with the Human Performance institute at Western Michigan University to investigate the physical relationship between the human body and chair.
